Education Board.

At a meeting of the Board in Napier on Tuesday last, the following correspondence was read : — From the Matawhero Committee, forwarding a petition from a number of settlers at Waerenga a-hika, asking that their district might be formed into a separate school district, and forwarding suggested boundaries. The Board approved the recommendation.

From the same, covering a petition signed by sixteen parents at Matawhero, asking for the removal of the matter. The committee did not, however, make any recommendation, and the Board could not take action in the matter. From the same, covering a letter from Mr Toms, of the Te Arai’school, asking for house allowance.—Granted From the Education Department, Wellington, Stating that a reserve of over 15 acres in the Patutahi district, had been set aside as a school site. BONUSES. It was decided to grant bonuses to teachers on the results of the annual examination based on the following scale :—To all certificated teachers whose pupils obtained above 75 per cent, of possible marks, a bonus of £2O ; 70 to 75 per cent., £ls ; 60 to 70 per cent., £lO. To licensed teachers who have passed over 75 per cent., a bonus of £7 10s ; from 70 to 74, £5, and from 60 to 70, £3 15s. Assistant teachers to be paid as licensed teachers. Pupil teachers of the 3rd and 4th year, above 75 per cent., £3 ; from 70 to 75 per cent., £2 ; and from 69 to 70 per cent., £l. The amount of bonuses granted was £451. NOTICES OF MOTION. MFhe Rev. D. Sidey gave notice that meeting he would move that Board reconsider the regulation Hnder which aided schools were excluded from participation in the building grant. Mr Dobson gave notice that he would move that the regulation passed on Sept. 20th relating to the payment of masters for training pupils be awarded.
