Melbourne, Dec. 22. The Victorian Parliament will be prorogued by proclamation tomorrow. London, Dec. 20. Nothing has been heard of the balloon which drifted across the English Channel, and fears are entertained for its safety. Walter Powell, M.P. for Malmesbury, aad others were occupants. The French flag has been hoisted at Kairatea or Ulietea, a mountainous, but exceedingly fertile island belonging to the Society group, about 130 miles to the north-west of Taheite. Managers of all the theatres in London have been warned to take every precaution to facilitate the escape of their audiences, in the event of an alarm of fire occurring. Several steamers expected from America and other foreign ports are overdue, and since the recent heavy gales in the Atlantic, considerable alarm is felt for their safety. Viscount Boyle, eldest son of the Earl of Shannon, and Lieutenant attached to the 3rd Battalion (Prince Consort’s Own), Rifle Brigade), now stationed in Ireland, is reported missing from the Garrison at Dublin. An uneasiness is felt at his inexplicable disappearance. Since the discovery of the outrage perpetrated upon the remains of Earl Crawford, steps have been taken by direction of Her Majesty to protect the Royal Mausoleumat Frogmore Park. December 21. A circular has been issued to the English clergy, by Dr. Tait, Arc! bishop of Canterbury, in which the latter proposed that a more direct communication should be established between the Home and Colonial churches, with a view to encourage special Christian knowledge in the colonies, and for the spiritual benefit of emigrants.
