Sir H. Parkes’ Visit to England.
He Undertakes Missions for the Joint Colonies.
In the Legislative Assembly, at Sydney, on December 15, Sir Henry Parkes, Premier, made a lengthy statement in regard to his approaching v:sit to England. He stated that he undertook the same solely on account of ill-health, but that while in America he would interview the United States Government, and endeavour to obtain free admission for Australian wools to America. All the Colonial Governments, except Victoria, had arthorised him to act on their behalf in this matter. Sir Henry further announced that he would act in concert with New Zealand, and do liis utmost to obtain American contributions towards the subsidy for the San Francisco mail service. While in London he intended to re-arrange the system of immigration to New South Wales. Parliament would be prorogued between February and June, and in the letter month he expected to return to the colony. In his absence his duties would be performed by his colleagues, and his journey would cost the colony nothing.
