(from our own correspondents). Napier, Dec. 11. W. R, Rendle, Post Office defaulter was sentenced to six years hard labor, for stealing a letter from ti e Napier Post Office. T. Warner was sentenced to two years hard labor for forgery and uttering. Mr Sutton has been officially declared elected member for the Hawke’s Bay electorate. The official declaration of the Napier election takes place to-morrow. Balclutha, December 14. For the Clutha election the poll officially declared to-day, was Thomson, 286 ; Jewett, 227. Both the candidates addressed the electors.
Dunedin, Dec. 14. Mr C. A. DeLautor, has been elected for Mount Ida district.
The escort brought down £20,(00 worth of gold last night. William Edwards, blacksmith, committed suicide at Clinton last night, by hanging ; he had been in low spirits for some time.
Mr Pyke has convened a meeting of Otago members to consider the run question.
The numbers of the Dunstan polling wore : Pyke, 530 ; Eraser, 482. The Herald says Dr. McDonald has received a letter by the ma 1, strongly advising him to stand for the Rectorship of Edinburgh High School, with a salary of £lOOO a year, but he has declined.

The Mail steamer City of New York arrived this morning ; the late arrival of the steamer was caused by heavy snow on the railway lines, preventing the mails arriving at ’Frisco in time for the steamer to leave at her advertised date ; the Gisborne portion will reach Gisborne on Friday next. Foxton, December 14. The official declaration of the poll for Rangati.ui showed Stevens 487, Fox 135. Wellington, Dec. 14.
An infant aged 11 months, daughter of Mr T. E. Liardet, died this morning, resulting from scalds.
G-. S. Skinner was arrested on a charge of forgery and horse stealing. It is probable that action will be taken against those who were engaged in sweeps at the Hutt Races on the 30th ult.
The declaration of poll for South Wellington took place to-day ; Mr Hutchison was declared elected. At official declaration Te Aro numbers were unaltered,
