CORRESPONDENCE.

[JFe do not hold ourselves responsible for opinions expressed by our correspondents].

EAST COAST DRINKING AND GAMBLING PUBS. TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —-It is qnite time these gambling pubs were put a stop to. It is quite a common thing for the Natives to play “ bluff ” for two or three days at a stretch—Sundays included. It is not a new thing ; it has been going on for some years past. When Captain Gudgeon was R.M. here, he had some of the pubs shut up ; but since he left, some of the same houses have been granted licenses, though the police report was strongly against it; and stated there was plenty of accommodation without them. I trust the authorities will look into this matter at the next Court day.—l am, &c., Settler.
