LYDIA HOWARDE TROUPE.

On Tuesday night, the Burlesque of Era Diavolo was produced before a moderate, but highly delighted audience. Miss Howarde did the “ Fra ” with her accustomed vivaciousness, in fact she never appeared to better advantage, and Miss Jennie Nye was equally charming in her impersonation of Zerlina. Miss De Glorian undertook the part of Lord Allcash, and Miss M. Vincent that of Lady Allcash. Mr. Fisher—one of the best low comedians on the stage—acted Lorenzo, and Mr. Harry Power, an old favorite, and associate of the Lydia Howarde Company, filled the place of Beppo, both of whom created much amusement in their particular line.

Last night Robinson Crusoe was presented in a manner that did credit to all. The local hits were good, and were well received. Miss Howarde sang “ Bid Me Discourse ” excellently ; and Miss Nye had to respond to an encore in the song “Esmeralda.” The other characters were well sustained.

To-night, Miss Howarde takes a benefit, for which a carefully prepared programme will be found in our advertising columns ; and, as the performance is under the special patronage of the Mayor and Chairman of the Borough and County Councils, we doubt not there will be a full house. Miss Lydia Howarde, and her talented company of artistes, are deserving of exceptional merit; independently of which they will be supported to-night by several local amateur ladies and gentlemen. This will be the last appearance of the troupe, as they proceed to Napier by the Oreti to-morrow.
