Mr. S. Roe, of Ormond, notifies that he has largely reduced the priees of his meat. . The quarterly licensing day for the districts of Poverty Bay and .Waiapu is fixed for Tuesday, 1 the 6th of December next. , . Cook County Council by-law 4, section 3, in its amended form, comes-into operation on Monday, the ,14th November. - -■ Captain -Winter notifies that all carbines on issue to the late Battery J Cadets, must be delivered by the 10th November instant. Correspondence by the English-’Frisco Mail will close here to-morrow at 3 p.m.. by the Arawata going South to catch the boat at Wellington bound for the Manakau. This step is absolutely necessary as the mail boat leaves Auckland on Tuesday next, and the next boat from the South will not arrive here till Wednesday next. Our country readers will please take notice that we have appointed Mr. L. Stevens, baker, of Patutahi, s f»nt for this journal. When our arrangements are completed, we trust to be able to make a house to house call in that district, so that our subscribers may depend on receiving the Stanbakd regular every morning of issue.

We notice that Mr. Sam Stevenson is extending the spirit of enterprise for which he is noted, and has erected an addition to his livery stables, in the shape of a saddlery and harness department. The wear and tear, in the saddlery line, of so large an establishment as Mr. Stevenson’s must be very considerable, and he, doubtless, finds it more economical to save intermediate expenses, by supplying the Wants of his customers himself.

The Auckland Free Lance says : —“ Mr. S. M. Wilson, the enterprising proprietor of the Albion Club Hotel, Gisborne, has been in Auckland executing a deed of conveyance. He has taken delivery of a large and handsome drag, built for him by Mr. Alex. Mackie, the eminent coachbuilder, of Durham-street. The drag is a perfect model of its class, light, substantial, and commodious. It is capable of carrying 16 people of 16 stun each. Teams of two, three, four, five, six, or eight horses can be harnessed to the conveyance, and passengers tooled between the wharf and the Club Hotel at express speed.”
