[FbOM OUH OWN CoBBESPONDBNTB]. London, Oct. 26. The Times has a leading article to-day commenting upon the positon of Native affairs in New Zealand. In the course of its remarks, it expresses a hope that the New Zealand Government will show much forbearance towards the Maoris, in dealing with the difficulty on the West Coast. A cargo of beef brought per steamship Garonne was sold to-day at Smithfield Market and realised an average of 4d per lb. The cargo had been partially displayed in the refrigerating Chambers, owing to the weather on the voyage, the meat was, therefore, not in the best condition. Melbourne, Oct. 27. Thorpe has been committed for trial on a charge of embezzling £2500 from the Bank of Victoria. Oct. 28. No further information is received regarding the missing steamer Balclutha.
