O’Donovan Rossa, in the United Irishman, writing in allusion to the infernal machines discovered on a Liverpool steamer, »vys: — \~ ose barrels were designed to execute Mr. Forster and Mr. Gladstone for their murders in Ireland, we are sorry they did not reach them in proper fashion. It is our opinion that the Irish in fighting England could burn down London, Liverpool, Manchester, and other big English cities, and could easily burn down England’s shipping, particularly her merchant ships ; and we say the Irish should do it, and hope in God they will do it, if England will not give up Ireland at a lesser sacrifice.” The America rf newspapers, to their credit be it said, have not been slow in denouncing these atrocities, and almost unanimously express a hope that the Governments of the two countries will cooperate with each other in preventing and punishing crimes of this nature.
