SEA BATHING.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Does it not appear] strange that wc, who live literally at the sea-side, should not have made some more suitable provision for ‘sea bathing ? It is true that a number of men make a practice of bathing, either on the beach, or up the Taruheru River, but no one appears to have studied the inclinations of our lady friends in this matter, and as a consequence they have been debarred from indulging in this most invigorating and healthful exercise. In the old Country people living inland look forward with pleasure to an annual visit to the seaside to enjoy “ the odour of brine from the ocean,” with its concomitants of boating, bathing, &c., while tre, who enjoy the advantage of having the sea almost at our very make very little use of the opportunity. Perhaps this is owing in a great measure to the fact that we have no bathing machine, or Other suitable appliances for the accommodation of bathers. I think, Sir, that this state of things should not longer exist, and I would ask if there is no one in our midst, with sufficient enterprise to provide a suitable machine, or building on the beach, especially for the use cf ladies. I fancy a subscription list could readily be opened to defray the cost and maintenance. The gallantry of the Borough Council would, lam sure, prompt that body to make any regulations within its power for the decent and orderly conduct of lathing,—l am &c. F.J.P.
