News has bleu received of the death of Mr. D. Thornton, formerly of Thornton, Smith & Firth, Auckland. He had large woollen factories at St. Petersburg. Mr. S. A. Deacon, a Cape Town ostrich farmer, proposes, according to the Post, to settle in Hawke’s Bay, with the object of establishing ostrich farming in that province.
