News has bleu received of the death of Mr. D. Thornton, formerly of Thornton, Smith & Firth, Auckland. He had large woollen factories at St. Petersburg. Mr. S. A. Deacon, a Cape Town ostrich farmer, proposes, according to the Post, to settle in Hawke’s Bay, with the object of establishing ostrich farming in that province. An American paper says : —We have received an advance copy of a new publication, entitled “ The New Testament Revised Edition.” We have not yet had time to look over it carefully, but it is well printed and independent in politics, and we predict for it a prosperous career.
