Parliamentary.

[from OUR own correspondent]. Wellington, Sept. 15. The House .sat till four this morning discussing the general and Public Works Estimates, which are passing with great rapidity. On the House meeting this morning, Mr. Hall moved its adjournment till 7.30 this evening, owing to the death of Mr. W. S. Moorhouse, member for Ashley, who died at eight o’clock this morning. The Premier paid an eloquent tribute to the memory of deceased. Sir George Grey seconded the motion. Mr. Andrews also spoke highly of the late member. The body is to be conveyed to Christchurch by the Stella tomorrow. The Railways Construction Bill has passed the second reading in the Upper House by a large majority. Mr. Wood paid Mr. Seddon, yesterday, the amount of a bet made last session between himself and Mr. Reeves, on the honorarium question. The trustees of Reeves’ bankruptcy got acquainted with the affair, and obtained power from the Supreme Court to compel Mr. Seddon to pay the money to the trustees instead of to Mr. Reeves. There are no local or general news of importance. Friday, 9 p.m. The House met at 11 o’clock to-day, and passed several unopposed measures through Committees, and adjourned till this evening, so as to permit members to attend the funeral of the late Mr. Moorhouse. Last night a clause was carried in the Municipal Corporations Bill giving power Bo Municipal authorities to regulate the hour of closing all retail establishments in boroughs. The Petitions Committee report that Mr. Brogden has no claim on the colony.

As will be seen from our advertising columns, the s.s. Rosina is laid on the berth for Tokomaru on Wednesday morning next—or rather Tuesday midnight. In order to facilitate the despatch of the steamer it is necessary that those who purpose taking advantage of the opportunity should advise the agents without delay.
