WHAT the DUNEDIN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE THINKS.
The Chamber of Commerce report states that a reply has been received from the American Government that the question of the remission of duty on wool is referred to the Committee of Ways and Means of the House of Representatives for consideration. Legal’ reform is urgently demanded by the country, and a hope is expressed that pressure will be brought to bear to induce legislation on the subject. It is expected that the Union Company ere long will see their way to extend their operations to Fiji. The Chamber thinks the time has arrived for the Colony to erect its own sugar refinery, and for the cultivation of sugar beet.
