Parliamentary.

[from our own correspondent]. Wellington, August 30. The tactics of the Opposition in regard to the Representation Bill, as wired you, were carried out. The Premier gave notice in a string of resolutions to be adopted as a standing order, the same as was introduced by Gladstone in the House of Commons, to put an end to obstruction by the Irish party. Since their proposal the matter has been the sole subject of conversation in the lobbies. It is currently reported this afternoon that on the resolutions being proposed by the Premier, an amendment will be moved in the shape of a direct want of confidence in the Government. Some of the Government’s strongest supporters ars wroth at the action taken by the Premier. It is anticipated that some friends of the Government will get the resolutions formally referred to the Standing Orders Committee, to alter the standing orders. Two-thirds of the numerical strength in the House, viz., 79, are in favor of such a step. Vogel’s suppressed despatch contains a strong attack on the Government, and its policy, the tone of the letter is generally condemned by all political parties. A Committee of the Legislative Council appointed to enquire as to whether members of that august body sold their honorariam to Mr. Reeves, member for Hokitika last session, sat to-day. Mr. Reeves, and J. C. Brown were examined, and some interesting disclosures were made.
