District Court.
The Court, presided over by his Honor Judge Kenny, has been occupied during the last two days in a suit preferred by Mr. W. L. Rees against Mr. M. G. Gannon. This was a case, referred by his Honor Mr. Justice Gillies, at the last sittings of the Supreme Court at Napier, to the arbitration of Harry Eyre Kenny, Esqr., District Judge, as tfcere was a cross action brought by Mr. Gannon against Mr. Rees. Both these actions take their rise in disputed accounts. Mr. Rees sues Mr. Gannon for £673 5s lOd, made up of £531 6s cash advances, and a bill of costs of £l4l 19s lOd. Mr. Gannon's cross action is for £262 odd, being charges on account of interpretation, etc., done, as he alleges, for Mr. Rees. On Monday Mr. Rees gave his evidence in chief, at great length, and was also cross-examined at great <length by Mr. Brassey, who appeared for Mr. Gannon. Several of the items of Mr. Bees’ account were abandoned by him, both in the cash account, and bill of costs. The Court rose about 4.30. On Tuesday, Mr. Rees’ cross-exami-nation was finished about 12.30. Mr. Gannon then gave his evidence, being examined by Mr. Brassey, and crossexamined by Mr. Rees. The award was ordered by Judge Gillies to be made within two months from the 17th of June, 1881. It is likely the case will be continued during to-day.
