Holy Trinity Church.
Annual Report of the Churchwardens and Vestry, of the Parish of Holy Trinity, Gisborne, FOR THE YEAR ENDING THE 30th day of June, 1881. Your Vestry, in presenting their Report previously to resigning their office, are sorry to be obliged to say that the financial year jnst closed has again been a trying one for them. You will gather from the reading of the Annual Balance Sheet, and Statement of Assets and Liabilities hereto annexed, full information on the subject of parochial Finance. Although in commercial circles it is generally admitted that the depression lately prevailing is gradually lightening, still your Vestry cannot report that they have as' yet been benefited by it. The average annual expenses of the Parish are as follows : —
This amount is exclusive of £4O annual interest on Church Loan from Rev. S. Williams. The average sources of income to meet the above expenses are as follows :—- Seat Rents £lB6 Offertories 230 Donations 50 £466 Your Vestry regret to state that a large amount is still due for seat rents. And have further to report that the arrears of interest on the Parsonage are gradually increasing, and that the Minister’s Stipend is unpaid to the extent of £122 Ils, and this, notwithstanding his having consented to a reduction of £3O a year until times improve. Efforts have been made by your Vestrv, during the year, to meet existing liabilities, and they regret that they have not so generally been met with that hearty co-operation from the Parishioners which they had every reason to expect. We would urge upon those of the Parishioners who are in arrears with their dues, the absolute necessity of promptly discharging their indebtedness. Your Vestry desire to thank Capt. Chrisp for his liberal kindness in presenting the parish with the material for the two transept windows in the Church. Also Mr E. Bloomfield for his generous donation of £5O towards the Church Building Fund. Also, the Ladies and Gentlemen of the Choir for their services during the year, and to convey to Mr Cooper their appreciation of the able manner in which he has fulfilled his position as Organist. The following statistics for the past year are furnished by our Minister : — Baptisms 38 Marriages 11 Burials 6 Communicants ... 115
The Sunday School is progressing favorably The attendance of children is good. The number on the roll being — ; attendance between • — and —. Thanks are due to Mr. Maude the Superintendent, and the assistant teachers, for their valuable services. In conclusion your Vestry would particularly draw the attention of the Parishioners to the fact that their Church here is dependent upon them solely for support (which support consists of seat rents, offertories and donations) and the Church is in receipt of no extraneous aid whatever, either by endowments or otherwise. And your Vestry therefore seriously, and earnestly, urge upon the Parishioners individually, and collectively, the necessity of sustaining, and supporting their Church.
