HITCHEN’S wonder of the World to be had at the ARGYLL. 308 The s.s. Albion from Auckland had not arrived up to a late hour last night, owing to the strong southerly gale blowing. We notice that the Rotorua has been withdrawn from Sydney this trip. The first steamer from this port for Sydney will be the Albion on her return from the south. DR. HITCHENS may be consulted at the ARGYLL daily. 307 The annual meeting of the Gisborne Benevolent Society was held in McFarlane’s Hall, on Wednesday last. Only a few of those interested in this useful Society were present. This was owing, doubtless, to the very wet day. The Ven. Archdeacon Williams was called to the chair. The Rev. Mr. Me Ara, hon. sec., read the annual report and balancesheet, which showed an amount of good work done during the year, and a small balance at the Bank. Votes of thanks were awarded to the ladies of the Committee, to the Hon. Secretary, and to Mr. P. McFarlane for the gratuitous use of his Hall. The following ladies were elected to serve on the Committee during the ensuing year : —Mesdames W. L. Williams, Berry, Pollen, Mountfort, East, O’Meara, Bousfield, and Miss Nesbitt. RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT, GISBORNE. Friday, June 22nd, 1881. [Before M. Price, Esq., R.M.] McCarthy v. Parnell. Adjourned to Tuesday next, the 26th July. Tucker v. Ward. Application for execution. Mr. Brassey appeared for the defendant, and requested that the case be adjourned to next Court day. His Worship said be considered such an application unreasonable. The defendant had given notice of appeal seven months ago, and he could not further adjourn it in the face of plaintiff’s application for judgment. Mr. Tucker, who appeared in person, said that in last December, a judgment was obtained against the defendant, and a notice of appeal was given for a mZe nisi. The rule has been set aside
