On the assurance of our exchanges we find it reported that the Premier — Mr. J. Hall, the head of a Ministry who are always twitting the “ outs ” with the lavish expenditure of public time and money—lately announced that if a “ sufficient number ” of members of Parliament felt inclined for a holiday he would place the Hinemoa at their service, in order that they might visit the Industrial Exhibition at Dunedin 1 Surely this must be one of the Premier’s pieces of sarcasm ; or, if it is really a serious offer, it is too much so for the outside public to think of with complacency. We know some members look upon the annual trip to Wellington as one te be devoted more to pleasure than business ; and public affairs have only the residuum of their time. It is also a fact that a generous, over-burdened, tax-paying public, treat them very handsomely in according them many privileges ; but for the representative of so severely economical a Ministry as the present professes to be, to actually “ propose ” such a waste of time after ten days in Session, demands something more than a passing condemnation. We trust there is something incorrect in the reports to hand, but the above are as they have reached us.
