Football.
The match Town v. Country, which is to take place this day week is being looked forward to with some amount of interest amongst those wishing to see football once more revived in Gisborne. As to-day will be the last practice before the Town representatives are chosen, it would be as well for all those desirous to be amongst the fifteen, to show up this afternoon. The Country teem cannot be known until they muster on the ground on Saturday next, but a very good one is anticipated, as nothing has been left undone to bring together all the best players. If last Saturday’s scratch match may be taken as indicative of what can be made out of Gisborne, our Napier kickests will have to look to their form this year. There is already improvement going on in many ways, but the captains of the respective sides seem to have their work cut out in endeavoring to keep the men together. There appears to be far too much loose play, and reckless kicking on either side “ packing ” and those in command would do well to look to this. It would be difficult to say who will represent the Town but the committee will be able to form a very good idea from to-day’s play, so that a good number should put in an appearance.
