Davis Vertical Feed Sewing Machine.

By the s.s. Te Anau there arrived in Gisborne, the advance agent (Mrs. H. C. Fiske) for the sale of what it described as the new Davis Vertical Feed Sewing Machine. This machine has, it is stated, taken the first prize as against all the sewing machines in the world. The Award states, “ The New Davis Sewing Machine, being a complete departure from the ordinary style of sewing machines, possessing all advantages of such ordinary sewing machines, and in addition an increased range of work, with the greatest simplicity of construction, and reduction in number of working parts, we consider it entitled to first place in awards.” Our reporter witnessed the specimen machine in full operation last evening at the Albion Club Hotol, aridhe describes it as being a wonderful perfection of science. Apparently no effort is required to produce any sort of fancy work desired and frilling, quilling, hemming, kilting, brading, and as many other “ ings ” as any member of the mile persuasion can possibly think of, were turned out in beautiful style by Mrs. Fiske. The lady operator spared no pains to exp'ain the simplicity of Vertical Feed Machine, and certainly there must be something wonderful- in it, as the work accomplished on the “ Davis,’" apparently so easily, could never have been completed in the same way on any other other machine we ever saw. It seems to matter not what thickness, or what quality, or pattern of work this invention is called on to perform, it goes straight ahead and does it. Of Course all these wonderful movements are under the supervision of Mrs. Fiske, but we hear she is perfectly willing to impart instruction to anyone purchasing. We regret our space forbids us giving a more detailed account of the wonders executed last evening.
