The Southern Cross Petroleum Company.
A meeting of Directors of the above Compeny took place at the Company’s office, No. 4, Nasmith’s Buildings, on Monday night last. W. H. Tucker Esq., was unanimously elected Chairman of the Board. The Managing Director, Mr. Clarke, laid some interesting facts before the Board. Amongst others, that he had visited the Company’s property at Rotokautuku, and had located the spot, at which it was considered to be advisable to begin the first boring operations. It is situated between two of the most elevated springs in the district; and where there is an abundant supply of excellent water. The timber is nearly all cut, and arrangements are made for hauling it into position. A road, about two miles in length, is being cut from the springs, to join the road to Awanui, when communication with that port will be brought within easy distance—say about nine miles.
