Native Land Court.

The Judges yesterday arrived at a decision, inter alia, on the long pending case of the Pouawa Block. They have made the awards m partition of the Block, gl ving 838 acres in all to the dissentients from the sale of land for the social settlement, and the balance of the Block-18362 acres-to the remaining owners, who have sold 12,060 acres for the purposes of Mr. Reed’s Special Settlement. The Judges agreed to send for the original certificate of title, and on the surrender of tie existing lease, to cancel the present certificate, and issue new certificates for the separate portions, at the same time receiving the deed of purchase. A difficulty arose as to the surrendering of the existing lease, prior to the Court’s actually making the award, as. the position of the leases would be prejudiced thereby. After much deliberation in order

to get over this difficulty, it was agreed by the Judges that the cancellation of the original certificate, the surrender of the lease, the order for the issue of the new certificates, and the recognition of the deed of sale, should be dealt with by the Court simultaneously. As the lessees and all concerned have mutually arranged, and agreed for the surrender of the original lease, and all the owners of the larger block, without any exception, have already signed the deed of conveyance of the 12,000 acres to Mr. W. L. Rees, there remains but the administrative process of giving effect to the Court’s decision in the terms which it has prescribed.
