Serious Accident
A VERY serious accident occurred on Monday afternoon by which Mr. Duncan Hepburn, and one of hid little girls, aged about seven, met with injuries of a very severe nature. From what can be gleaned it appears that Mr. Hepburn was driving home, and when nearing a cutting at Patutahi his horse bolted and upset the cart over a siding. Two boys who were in the trap, escaped uninjured, but the others were not so fortunate. In the fall the little girl received a crushing blow on the head, and now lies in a very precarious state. Her father had his arm broken, and the wheels of the cart passed over his body, bruising him so that he is now unable to even move in his bed. A man named Waldron, working near, rendered valuable assistance to the sufferers, and no time was lost in sending to town for Dr. Pollen, who, with his usual promptitude, was soon in attendance. In Mr. ’ Hepburn’s case, we are pleased to learn, there is no real danger, but we regret that we cannot speak so favorably of the condition of the child.
