Auckland, February 8. At the Haymarket on Friday last, fodder brought from 2s 6d to 3s 6d per cwt.; maize, 2s 8d per bushel. Horse stock were numerous ; those of a superior class fully maintained their values, but small-sized horse stock were something lower in price than of late. At the sale of hides and skins, prices for pelts ranged from 4d to Is 4d; sheepskins, 4s 2d to 4s 7d each ; fleece wool, 7fd ; lambs’ wool, sfd to 7|d per lb.; hides, 2id to 3fd per lb. At the sheep fair there was a very numerous attendance of buyers, and at the opening of the auction, both for ewes and rains, lower prices ruled than were obtained as the sale proceeded. Many parties were unsupplied. Ewes of all classes were about 25 per cent, higher than last year’s values. Few lambs, except culls, were offered, and for well-conditioned lambs, extreme prices ruled; the only exception to the above remark is as to wethers for which a very limited demand existed. At Remuera, daily cattle were fairly represented and maintained their values ; store cattle numerous, with scarcely any inquiry, unless at low values, and a large number were withdrawn. Fat cattle in full supply ; 170 head sold to the trade, and prices rallied fully 2s 6d the lOOlbs. upon last week’s prices, whilst inferior cattle remained at 20s : good quality
were steady at from 24s to 26a per lOOlbs. Sheep were in moderate supply, but scarcely maintained last week’s values; lambs, short of requirements, and at improved prices for quality varying from 10s to 18s each ; fat calves scarce and sold at high prices.
