The Haselmayer's.

Last evening Professor Haselmayer and his amiable and charming wife made their first appearance at McFarlane’s Hall to a crowded assemblage. The time at which we necessarily are compelled to go to press, prevents us from detailing the particulars of the numerous feats performed. Ledgerdemain, which would in olden days have been asserted to be diablerie, or wizard like, formed a large portion of the entertainment -, whilst Madame Haselmayer would certainly have been convicted of witchcraft, as being one of the most bewitching of ladies ever seen in Gisborne, on the stage. No hitch whatever occurred, and the Professor executed his marvellous tricks with a cleanness and cleverness rarely ever witnessed We can however assert that all who fail to attend this evening will miss an opportunity perhaps never again to be afforded in a lifetime. The look of astonishment on the faces of some of our Native population when by simply “ presto pass ” one article was instantaneously transmogrified, would take more space than we are unfortunately limited to. Madame Haselmayer fully sustained the reputation she has so deservedly earned, not only as a magicienne, but also as a lady possessing beauty rarely beheld, even in a land where we proudly boast of the charmingness of New Zealand’s daughters.
