WAERENGA-A-HIKA JOCKEY CLUB.

The committee met, pursuant to notice, at the Waerenga-a-hika Hotel ou Monday evening last. Present: —Messrs Maynard (Chairman), Price, J. Breingan, Devery, Hales, and Nash. Messrs Chas. Ferris and H. E. Webb were duly proposed and elected as members, on the proposition of Mr Hales. Mr Hales proposed “That in future all the meetings of the committee be strictly private,” seconded by Mr Devery and carried. Mr J. Breingan proposed and Mr Devery seconded, “ That Mr Maynard be permanent chairman for the present term of office,” carried. Mr Hales asked what arrangements had been made with regard to printing and advertising. Mr Maynard said that the late Secretary, Mr Williams, reported to the committee that he had given the advertising and printing to the Herald office, Mr Dufaur’s tender being lower than that of the Standard. Mr Webb, who was present, stated that no communication had been made to the Standard office on the subject, whereupon Mr Hales proposed, and Mr Breingan seconded “ That it is desirable that the general tone of the club bo one of conciliation, particularly as regards the two local journals ; aud that in order to carry out this it will be necessary to divide the patronage of the club as much as possible between them ; to effectwhich the mover, proposes that the advertising be given alternately, and the printing only be tendered for ; this arrangement to obtain so long as there are only two journals in the district; to be one of the standing rules of the club, and that the printing for this year be given to the Standard. Carried. Mr Hales proposed—That Mr Winter be'asked to act as starter at the coming races. Seconded by Mr Price and carried. Sergeant Major Baker was elected as Judge, on the proposition of Mr J. Breingan, seconded by Mr Price. Mr W. Benson was elected clerk of the course. Messrs Devery and Hales were appointed as handicappers, with power to call upon a referee in case of dispute. The Secretary said there was £lOO to the credit of the Club, which could be awarded as prizes, the committee then proceeded to the apportionment of that amount among the several events, the particulars of which will be found iu the race programme iu another column.
