Uawa Land Court—ek sitting of the Native Land Court will be held at Uawa, on Wednesday the 13th day of December instant. - ■ • • V
Licensing Meeting.—The usual quarterly meeting of the Licensing Bench will be held in the Court House on Tuesday next.
Waipaoa Bridge.—No intelligence has been received from the Government relative to the tenders.for the ereetion of this bridge. Masonic Meeting.—The usual monthly meeting of the Turanganui Lodge, will be held in the Masonic Hall, on Monday evening next.
Cricket.—The match, Town v. Country, postponed on account of the rain from last Saturday, will positively -be played to-day, as announced. Gaoler.—Sergeant Brownlow of the A. C. Force stationed here, has been appointed gaoler at the Gisborne gaol, in the place of Mr J. King, resigned.
Melbourne Cup.— Those interested are reminded that Page and Co. will settle with the drawers of lucky horses in their sweep, on Monday evening next, at the Masonic Hotel. Awapuni Block. — Mr E. Woon requests that all persons interested in the sub-division of this block, Will meet him on the ground on Wednesday next December 6th.
Benevolent Contributions.—Mr J. W. Johnson has handed in a further sum of £2 Is to the Hon. Secretary of this Society, Mrs O’Meara, who has requested us to acknowledge the same with thanks. The Cottage of Content Hotel, Victoria and Hobson Streets, Auckland, affords unrivalled accommodation; and is a really well-appointed, first-class hotel. Suites of rooms for families, &c., &e.— W. B. Langbridge.—[Advt.J New Auction Rooms. —We learn that Mr C. D. Berry is the successful tenderer for the erection of Messrs Ferris and Pitt’s new Auction Mart. The site is a capital one, between the Argyll Hotel and the Union Bank. Billiards. — We learn that Mr J. Brodie has leased the Billiard room attached to the Masonic Hotel, and assumes duty on Monday next. We are glad of this. Mr Brodie is an experienced man, and will be sure to “ draw good houses.” We heartily wish him success.
Education Rate.—We learn that warrants have been received by Captain Gudgeon, ordering the committal of several defaulters under the Education Act to the Gisborne Goal for 14 days, unless the rates are at once paid. We believe several Armed Constabulary men are included. Divine Services, To-morrow, Sunday.—Church of England—The Rev. E. Caledonian Spouts.—No one must forget the meeting at the Shelbourne hotel this evening. A programme for New Year’s sports has to be framed, and a very handsome Tea and Coffee service (which is on dit that it was intended for Sir Julius Vogel) is to be raffled for. So that besides business, there will be some fun. Where do you Live?—ln a salubrious locality, or in a region the atmosphere of whichis periodically tainted with malaria? It in the'latter; it is. not unrctesonalHc-tv-suppose that when the regular time for the development of miasma arrives every year, you are just as regularly shaken up with Fever and Ague. Let us hope not, but if you are, lose no time' in procuring Udolpho Wolfe’s Schiedam Aromatic Schnapps, which, if used regularly, .will protect you from the next visitation.

Counties Act. —As it is. of the first importance that the settlers in the district should be well acquainted with the working of the new institutions which have succeeded to provincialism, we beg to inform them that copies of the new Counties Act, passed in the last Session of the General Assembly, can be had at the Standard Office, price one shilling each.
Mr Broomhall.—We learn from a reliable source, that Mr Broomhall has been making enquiries in Auckland, relative to the capabilities of this district, as a field, for his enterprise,.but could get no one to give him any information. He, therefore, has decided to pay it an early visit and see for himself. Should Mr .Broomhall come, we trust that our leadI ing men will combine to give him a cordial reception.
