Gisborne, Friday, December 10,1875. Before W. K. Nesbitt, Esq., B.M. J. M. M'Gbnis was charged on information with having threatened the life of his wife Isabella M'Genis, by saying he would cut her throat. Complainant, sworn, deposed to the circumstances under which the threat was made. Cross-examined by defendant: The threat was made by you about three days since in my house, in the front room. I do not know the cause which led to vour

threatening my life. It was in the afternoon. lam sure you said you would cut my throat and not your owm I saw no instrument in ydiir hand at the time. I have attended to my ' domestic duties until you said I put pigwash before you to eat. The reason I left the house was to get my living. In answer to the Bench, defendant denied the charge. He had no witnesses, and had no recollection of having threatened bis wife. He believed the charge was trumped up at the instigation of third persons. The Benell considered the charge sustained, and ordered defendant to find security for £lO, and to enter into his own recognizance for £2O to keep the peace for six months ; or, in default six mouths, imprisonment. Defendant said if his wife would like to see him go to prison he would take it out, and left the Court in custody.
