Wesleyan Conference, —The New Zealand Wesleyan Conference meets in Wellington in January next. Hay Making.—We notice that haymaking has commenced in earnest at Makaraka, Matawhero, and Ormond, and that the crop is remarkably good. Wesleyan Church Concert.—This concert will positively take place on Friday evening the 17th instant, the rehearsal on Tuesday evening next. Turanganui Lodge.—The monthly meeting of the Turanganui Lodge will be held at the Freemasons’ Hall on Monday evening next the 13th instant at 8 o’clock. Reduction in Bread.—The price of bread at Napier has been reduced to 4d per 2 lb loaf, cash, and 4|d on monthly credit. It is high time it was reduced in Gisborne also. A. S. P. Company.—The seventh halfyearly meeting of this Company’ was held at Auckland on Tuesday last. The profits for the last half-year were £3,199 18s. Id. A dividend of ten per cent was declared. Issuing of Writs.—A General Government Gazette, dated 6th instant notifies, besides dissolving the Assembly, the issue of writs, and the summoning of the new Parliament for the 2nd of February, on which date the writs are returnable. Now is the time to subscribe to Saturday Night. Two sewing machines to be given to Subscribers, valued at Seven and Six Guineas, for solving a riddle, or writing the best essay on the most enjoyable way of spending Christmas in the Colonies. Agents everywhere.—[advt.] Education Bates. —We have been requested by the Collector to draw attention to the date on which it is absolutely necessary for the Education Bates to be paid, so as to avoid legal proceedings which will issue against all defaulters after the 15th instant. Presbyterian General Assemlby.— The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, was opened at Christchurch, on Saturday evening last. There was a large attendance. The Bev. Mr. McGowan, Lyttleton, was elected Moderator. Sale of Bun.—Mr. Ferris has just effected a sale of Mr. Wallace’s run at Whangara, to a southern capitalist, for £9,500. The run contains about 21,000 acres leasehold, and has 7000 sheep on it. New Boad District.—A meeting of Ratepayers will take place at the Shelbourne Hotel, Makaraka, on Tuesday evening next the 14th instant, at 7 o’clock, “ for the purpose of forming a country district between Gisborne and Waereuga-a-hika,” which we presume, means forming, a new Boad district, under the Highways Act. Oddfellowship.—A meeting of the residents of Ormond will take place on Saturday evening next, the 18th instant, at the schoolhouse, Ormond, for the purpose of considering the advisability of establishing a lodge in that township, in connection with the Manchester Unity of Oddfellows. Mr. Peter Sorry.—ln explanation of Mr. Sony’s letter in yesterday’s Herald —which might have been sent to us—we have only to say that we are not in any way responsible for the correctness of the documents in the Police Court. Mr. Sorry, however, is in error as to the alias. On referring to the record we find we were perfectly correct—the information being laid by Jane Sorry against “ Pedro Sores ” alias Peter Sorry. Polling Places, East Coast.—The Government Gazette of the 6th instant, notifies that the following are the polling places for the East Coast Electorate The Court House, Wairoa; the Court House, Gisborne; the Court House, Tauranga ; the Court House, Maketu; Te Kati’s house, (used as a Court House) Matata; the School House, Whakatane; and the Court House, Opotiki.

The Nbw Year’s Ball.—A meeting of the Stewards of this Ball took place on Thursday afternoon, when certain preliminary arrangements were made for the successful carrying out of the Ball to be given under the auspices of the Celtic Club on New Year’s eve. It was agreed that invitations to ladies throughout the district, should be forthwith issued.; and that free tickets be presented to the respective clergymen in Gisborne, and their families. Tickets can be had of the Stewards, and several places of business in town.
