ROAD BOARD.

The usual meeting of the Board took place on Monday last. The following letters were received From Air. Poynter complaining that his property was being damaged through the obstructions in the outlet drains on the main road. TheEnginecr was instructed to see to the removal of said obstructions without delay. From Captain Chrisp, recommending that additional wharf accommodation ho provided. The Board declined to entertain the matter. From Mr. O’Donoghue, requesting inspection of punts at the Big Rjver. From Air. McGinnis requesting permission to erect baths. From Mr: J. Williams applying for extra allowance in making drains exceeding a specified measurement. Refused. Anumerouslysignedpetition was presented by the Ormond settlers praying that steps be taken toprevent encroachment of the river on the Ormond township. The Board decided to forward the petition to the General Government, recommennding the granting of its prayer. Mr. Berry and Captain Porter were accepted as surities for Mr. Piesse as rate collector. A complaint was made personally to the Board by Mr. Shearer —the present ferryman—that private persons are plying their boats tor hire to his detriment. The Board decided to communicate with the Government on the matter. The Board resolved that the road metal now being placed on the Gladstone Road, and originally intended for channelling, should be broken up and spread on the road. The Secretary was instructed to inform Mr. G. Burnand that he must not use the punts except for carrying road metal, and also to carry out terms of his contract in their entirety. The Engineer was authorised to employ additional labour in improving the surface of main roads in the district. Mr. J. Williams’, tender for contracts G and H of Gladstone Road, were accepted. Accounts were presented to the amount of £75 17 s 9d.
