TO THE ELECTORS OF POVERTY BAY. —I notice by the papers that the Returning Officer announces that a member for the Provincial Council for this district is to be elected very shortly, but I have not heard of anyone offering himself for the seat. It is probable enough that the days of provincialism are numbered, and that there is but little left for the Auckland Provincial Council, or any other Council to do. That little, however, should be done properly, and at the request of a number of the settlers, I beg to announce myself as a candidate for the seat. If a better man comes to the front I hope you will elect him instead of me. If you deem me worthy of your confidence, I will do my utmost on behalf of the district, for I hold as important a stake in jfs welfare as the majority of you. I am, Gentlemen, Your Obedient Servant, 497 STAPLEION COTTON CAULTON.
