The Standard AND PEOPLE'S ADVOCATE. (PUBLISHED EVERY WEDNESDAY AND SATURDAY.)

SATURDAY, AUGUST 14, 1875.

“We shall sell to no man justice or right: We .hall deny to no man justice or right: We shall defer to no man justice or right.”

Elsewhere will be found the Returning Officer’s announcement that the nomination of candidates for the representation of this district in the Provincial Council, rendered vacant through the resignation of Mr. J. Woodbine Johnson, has been fixed to take place on Monday the 13th of September next. Under the present circumstances of our local politics, there does not seem to be much cause for either alarm or congratulation as to the coming man, and possibly, something like the usual indifference will be manifested in this matter until the eventful hour has arrived, when it will be too late +o pick and choose. It is possible that the honor of the position may be shorn of its attractiveness, through the legislation that is now taking place in Parliament, but as it is certain that more sessional work has yet to be done by Provincial Councils, and that of Auckland most assuredly about the end of the year, it is essential that the vacancy should be filled up, and we trust to see some volunteers yet to the front. Space prevents us from enlarging on this matter, the importance of which is pretty well known to our readers.
