In spaying a sow, the animal should be laid upon her left or near side, and held in that position by one or two assistants. The operator then makes an incision in the left or near flank, into which he introduces his forefinger, with which he feels for the right ovary. This he draws out, and passes a ligature around it, until the left one is drawn through the opening in a similar way. He then cuts or tears away the ovaries, and returns the womb, &0., into their places. A few stitches are then put into the wound, which is rubbed over with olive oil, or some healing salve, and no further trouble is required. Wounds in the flesh of a healthy pig heal rapidly ; and if she be kept quiet and supplied with plenty of clean litter, in less thau a week the wound will be quite healed. Little danger attends the operation, unless the animal is more than six weeks old. — Weekly Netos. t
