Gisbobne, Wednesday, July 7, 1875. (Before Judge Rogan, and Assessors Hone PBETFand WiKiBiWHI Tb Tuahu.) WAINGAROMIA NO. 1 BLOCK. The hearing of the ease of the objectors was gone ou with. Wi Mahuika (counter-claimant) gave evidence. His claim rested on his descent from three different ancestors, each of whom had exercised the right of ownership. Te Puia (counter-claimant) affirmed the foregoing. My brothers are admitted by Pita te Huhu, aftong the claimants to this land. Ido not know why Pita has excluded me. I claim over the whole of the Block, and have used it for the purposes of obtaining food. It is but of late that Pita has disputed my claim. In cross-examination by Pita it was stated that witness’ claim was to the Oil Spring Block, which adjoins the Waingaromia Block. Cross-examined by Hone Kewa: My ancestors and yours conjointly cultivated the land on the opposite side of the Waingaromia stream. Ka Mate Wai and Riria Mauaranui, gave sitSilar evidence on the side of the objectors, uninteresting in detail to the general reader. Friday, 9th May. Waingaromia, (continued.) Wi Mahuika, on former oath gave evidence to the effect that his parents had had a permanent kainga on the land, and that it had been cultivated by them. After a little further evidence the case for both sides closed. Judgment will probably be delivered to-day, Saturday. Puau Block. A small block of land situated on the right bank of the Waipaoa river near the ferry. Wiremu Patene furnished a list of claimants. He stated they inherited the land from Te Ikatapu. The claim was not disputed: and the hearing was WIIAKA HAU NGAHURU. Anftru Matete, aud Tamihana Rualapu, applied that this case be heat'd at an early date. The court decided on it being brought forward to-morrow (this) morning.
