[FbOM OUB TELEGRAPHIC CORRESPONDENT.] NAPIER. May 10. Re Provincial Council. Mr. Ormond was elected for Hastings. Mr. Towgood for Petane, and Col. Herrick for Hampden, without opposition in each instance. In his address, Mr. Ormond said that he would retain the Superintendeucy, if chosen, until the provinces were abolished, if the event came to pass moderately soou. Mr. Towgood, in his address, went in strongly for a bridge across the harbor. He suggested that the settlers should memorialise Sir Donald McLean to place £3OOO on the estimates for that purpose. Mr. Burton was elected for Wairoa unopposed. Messrs. Cable and Dolbel contest the Mohaka seat. The nomination takes place to-day. There are several new cases of sickness. Mrs. Sims, of Mohaka, died on the sth, of apoplexy. Messrs Owen and Graham, of Auckland, have opened a wholesale establishment at the spit. CHRISTCHURCH. May 10. The financial statement which was made, showed that the estimated deficiency amounted to about £75,000. The Provincial Secretary said that the Province had become intoxicated with good fortune; the reaction must come. Mercer was executed? on the 7th inst., for the murder of Isabella Thompson. A short time previous to the fatal ceremony, he remarked that “ It would be cold work hanging at 8 a.m. He hoped he would be allowed a ‘ nip’ first. AUCKLAND. ' May 10. Mr. Reader Wood was gazetted Provincial Treasurer on the Bth inst. Mr. O’Rorke has resigned his seat in the Executive. Messrs Sheehan and'Cadman, M.PC.’s, return by the Cross. The Auckland and Mercer line is completed. It will be opened for traffic on the Ist June. DUNEDIN. ’ May 10. His Excellency the Governor arrived on the 7th.
