THE GLADSTONE ROAD RACECOURSE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sin, —As it now appears to bo admitted that the Gladstone-road is for the future to be made over to the public as a Racecourse, I may perhaps be pardoned for making a few suggestions in the interest of our white and colored brethren (more particularly the latter) who display such laudable energy in the pursuit of their favorite sport. In the first place I would suggest that all pedestrians be warned against using the said road, as a promenade between the hours of 4 a.m. and midnight, and that about the latter time a strong body of police be told, off to keep the course clear as it must be excessively annoying to these spirited equestrians to be compelled to pull up every few minutes in order to examine whether their steeds have not, been injured by collision with some fool of an inhabitant who prefers going home by the road' to taking across country when he knows well enough he will only be in the way and interfere with our national sport. In the day time it does not make so much difference, as then, only nursemaids and babies are about, aud a few more or loss cannot be allowed to interfere.
Do Mr. Editor speak to the police, as although I believe there is some absurd law in existence having reference to furious riding I feel quite sure our gallant. “ demill itarized” would be only too glad to ignore it, and render vihat aid they could compatible with their onerous duties in connection with the dog tax.—l am, &c., A Lover of Sport.
