Race Entries.—Entries for the coming races were made, and a few Calcutta sweepstakes organized at the Masonic Hotel cn Wednesday evening last. College’s Almanacs. —We have received a supply of Napier almanacs by the Pretty Jane, which are on sale at our office at 3s each. Divine Services will be held to morrow as follow : —The Rev. J. Murphy, at Gisborne at 11 o’clock a.m., anil 7 p.m., and at Mata whero at. 3 o’clock. The Rev. W. H. Root, at Ormond in the morning, and St. Andrew’s Church in the evening, at the usual hours.
Church Meeting.—A meeting of members of the Roman Catholic Church is convened for to-morrow at Higgins’ Hotel, Makaraka, to consider matters in connection with that. Church.
Makaraka Hotel. —This first, rate hostelry is in the market to lease for a term of years. We should think there would be little difficulty in meeting with a lessee for this eligible and commanding house of business. The property is put in the market, solely on account of change of ownership, consequent on the recent decision of the Supreme Court, Dalziell v. Read.
Gisborne Hotels.—We observe by the Auckland papers that there are throe leading Hotels in Poverty Bay in the market for disposal. Caulton’s “ Masonic,” Blair’s “ Argyll,” and Bend’s “ Makaraka ” This fact may lead to ah impression outside that this line of business is at a discount in the district, but as the proprietors—except the last—have not notified their offers in the local journals, the probable impression is unavoidable.
Servants’ Reoistry. ■ — Mrs. Thomas Duncan, announces the opening of a Servants’ and General Registry Office in Gisborne. This will be a great boon to the district, for the difficulties that are experienced in procuring servants of all descriptions are at once insuperable and absurd. Mrs. Duncan will undertake, for the small fee of 2s 6<l, to procure the exact class of labor that may be required ; and from her past experience in this line of business, we should say that her services can be commanded with satisfaction. The office is at Mr. Duncan’s Bakery, Glad-stone-road.
