It will perhaps be a matter of surprise to many in New Zealand to know that the notorious murderer Sullivan, who was deported to England some time since from Auckland, has been arrested in Victoria under the Criminal Influx Act. In all probability he will be shipped to New Zealand. He was captured at Wedderburn, near Inglewood, at the house in which his “ late”’ wife was married about three years stnee, to a man resident here. Sullivan says he came from England by a ship to Sydney, thence by a steamer to Melbourne, from the latter place to Inglewood by coach, aud then walked up to Wedderburn. December 9. Count Arnim has been arrested on the charge of retaining possession of papers relating to the German Embassy at Paris, and which, it is alleged, belong to the archives of the nation. On being placed on his trial, he took a preliminary objection to the jurisdiction of the Court before which he was summoned, but. the objection was over-ruled. The indictment set forth that he was guilty of embezzling State documents. Several witnesses were examined, and the case is not yet finished. SYDNEY. December 9. Thebe is great political excitement here through no fewer than thirteen candidates having been nominated for the representation of East. Sydney. Mr. Sutherland, the Minister of Works, has been returned unopposed. The Mayor’s salary has been fixed at £BOO per annum. ADELAIDE. December 9.
