ROAD BOARD.

Monday, 20th April, 1874. All the members were present. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. LETTERS BECEIVED : From the Provincial Secretary notifying that the balance of General Government grant for this Road Board District had been placed to the credit of the Board, (£276 10s ) From the Provincial Secretary enclosing report, from the Officer Commanding the District, Captain Gudgeon, and the Resident Magistrate, recommending that the Municipal Police Act be brought into operation in the town of Gisborne. The reply of the Board was to the effect that there is no objection to the Act being proclaimed as is "'*ce. Resolved that the Churcn-road, Mendle-

-hum, be construete t as recommended by tin Engineer. '1 he Engineer was instructed to prepare specification and estimates for the formation of the middle road, Matawhero, from Mr. Poynter's gate at the commencement of contract No. 1 to the Matawhero road, and that the culverts be put in proper repair with slabbed wing-walls.

The Chairman laid before the Board a telegram from the Superintendent in reference to main • roads, in consequence of which it was decided not to proceed with any further works on the said roads. The Engineer was instructed to examine the flooring of t he Karawa Bridge and to take necessary steps to do what is required to prevent cuttie und horses from slipping.
