SULLIVAN TO SERVE HIS SENTENCE IN AUCKLAND.

(From the New Zealand Herald.) “ The sins of the Press of Auckland city in exposing and reprimanding the Government for the bungle they made in the release or attempted release of the murderer Svllivan, with a view to foist him upon our American cousins, are to be visited upon the heads of the people of the province. Sullivan, who but for a timely article in these columns would have been landed at San Francisco, and from which would probably have resulted some disagreeable correspondence between the American and New Zealand Governments, is for the future to reside in our midstunderthe protection of Captain Eyre. Our instructions from reliable authority, are that Mr. Sullivan has been duty transferred from Dunedin gaol to Mount Eden gaol, where he is to ‘ complete his sentence.’ We are also informed that no pardon ever was issued to Sullivan, but that he was shipped in the Mikado under transfer to Auckland gaol, his keeper receiving instructions to allow him to depart by the steamer if he saw his way clear. W’hether this is the correct version of the affair we know not i but some inquisitive member will probably d sire to be made acquainted with the correct version of the story; or, possibly, the American Government will desire to know more about the matter, when the Government will doubtless be able satisfactorily to explain the real position of affairs, and to clear up the whole question, which, at present is only shrouded in conjecture. *
