COLONIAL ITEMS.
Auckland. The Dauntless has arrived from Samoa. Mr. Williams, British Consul, is a passenger. Reports rich quartz reefs having been discovered about three miles from port. Colonel Steinburg has returned to the United States, after having interviewed the Chiefs. The natives generally wish for American protection.
It is rumoured that the captain of the Berar has absconded in the Wonga Wonga with £2OO worth of property. Reports abroad relative to seduction of single passengers by captain. Doctor also sailed in Wonga Wonga.
