EUROPEAN NEWS.
. London, September 22. Messrs. Jay and Cook, bankers, of New York, have suspended payment. It is believed only to be temporary, but it causes an uneasy feeling with regard to other houses connected with railroad enterprises. The bombardment of Carthagena by the ships of the Spanish Republic has been contradicted. It is the intention of Count de Chambord to reside in France. The steamer Arctic has arrived at Dundee with the crew of the Polaris and news from Dr. Livingstone. There is great excitement in Wall-street, in consequence of the failure of Jay, Cook and Co. Fisk, Hatch and Co., apd fourteen other firms in New York, have suspended payment. There is a general run on the banks of Washington and Philadelphia. The London Stock exchange is depressed. Colonial securities remain firm. Bombay. The native inhabitants on the whole of the coast westward of Elimana have revolted, and the tribes joined the Ashantees.
