CLIPPINGS.

[From the Hawke’s Bay Herald.] We observe that Mr. Takamoana has, or had lately, a notice on the paper in the House, — “That copies of all papers and correspondence relating to any occurrences which may have happened in connection with the present sitting of the Poverty Bay Commission at Gisborne, be laid on the table.” We learn that, through private enterprise, ova will, this season, be introduced into Hawke’s Bay. Private letters from Poverty Bay state that everyone is disgusted that the Commissioners should have gone without having .succeeded in doing anything. The natives believe that Henare Matua has stopped the proceedings, and that, in some way, they will benefit by the result. Several capitalists who have been waiting with the intention of becoming settlers have left the district, the progress of which will be greatly retarded in consequence. What do the Government mean ? Information has been received that the ship Hovding sailed early, in August with 259 immigrants for Hawkes’ Bay. She may be expected to arrive early in November, and her immigrants will be landed at an opportune time to relieve the labor market in the busiest part of the year. .. '• W t e regret to learn that there is a probability of the Rifle Volunteer Band being broken up, through the want of the necessary funds for paying a bandmaster’s salary, supplying new music, instruments, &c.
