CORRESPONDENCE.

[Our columns are open for free discussion ; but we do not hold ourselves responsible for the opinions of our Correspondents.]

TO THE EDITOR OF THE STANDARD.

Drab Sir, —I am glad to see the settlers in Poverty Bay are bestirring themselves anent a Building Society. My wonder is, one has not been formed before this, considering their past history. In England they are regarded as the best and safest investment, and I believe they have been successful in the Colonies.

Wishing to join one I wrote to Napier on the subject, and find the Committee there are thinking of including Poverty Bay in their radius, a plain proof they consider a Society here would pay. If it will pay them, surely it will pay us why not then start one at once ? A public meeting could be called to elicit public opinion on the subject, and further proceedings would be based on the feeling then evinced, —I am, Ac., W. Hevingham Root.
