LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, —I observed a shirt time since some grains of seed sown in your pap< r, seeds which 1 expected ere this to have shown some signs of vitality ; I allude to your article upon “ Building Societies.” Probably as the spring advances we may hope to see the germ burst forth in full vigor; but 1 would suggest that you stir up the surface of the ground works again, that a meeting of those interested in the progress of the place be held and full ventilation be given to the subject in order to ensure the necessary support which I have no doubt it will obtain when once fairly started. I shall bo most happy to give my services if required for the benefit of so good a cause.—l am, &c., Cit. July 21,1873.

Sir, —I have a grievance, like most people, and I write to ask you to ventilate the question and try and get my grievance rectified. My grievance is : I am an European, and being a voter and an European affects me considerably. I can only assist in returning one member for my district, and that member only an European ; whereas, if I could boast of the proud distinction of a Maori, I could vote for one European member and also for one Maori member. Might I ask if I blacked my face and hands whether any impertinent questions are likely to be asked ; or if 1 could possibly by great tact sufficiently assimilate one of the superior race we are privileged to live amongst. — Yours, truly, J.
