THE STANDARD.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 23, 1873.

“ We shall sell to no man justice or right: We shall deny to no man justice or right: We shall defer to no man justice or right.”

An immense pressure of general and local matter on our limited space, imposes an impossibility, which we cannot surmount, as to our entering upon a consideration of the subjects entertained by our fellow settlers at two of the most important public meetings ever held in Gisborne, on Monday last. The question of partitioning or enlarging the present Road Board District, was entirely lost sight of in the generally-expressed desire to separate so effectually from the Province of Auckland, that we may have the control and management of our own affairs Reports of both these meetings will be found in our present issue ; and while we congratulate our fellow laborers in the good cause, on the unanimity which characterized their proceedings, we would urge them to continued exertions, with a confident faith that if they grow not weary in well doing the duly which lies before them, success must, sooner or later, crown their efforts, and then—Cui bono ? We shall see.
