A telegram has been received at St. Petersburg, which states that the Khan of Khiva has capitulated, and that the Russians occupy Khiva. The Carlists in Spain are proceeding with undiniinished activity, and claim to have routed 20,000 Government troops. June 28. The Shah of Persia has expressed the profoundest astonishment at the English docks and shipping. The Australian exhibits have been commented on by the Press, as showing the rapid advance of the colonies. The wines have been declared by experts to be of a very high character. Dr. Livingstone gets a pension from the State of £3OO per annum. Sir Bartie Frere has resumed his position as the head of the Geographical Society. The action of Lord Kimberley re the postal services has been commended by the Press. The Russians have had further successes at Khiva. The text of Napoleon’s will has been published. It commends his wife and son to the tender consideration of France. The deceased Emperor leaves £120,000, only half of which will be ■realized by his wife and son. The Duke of Edinburgh gets £20,000 a year with his wife. He declines to reside in Russia. There are various rumors in reference to the Pope. One is that 'he is dead, and that the Cardinals are concealing it until the new Pope is • elected. A letter from Mrs. Colclough, of Auckland, on female immigration, which appeared in the Times, has excited some attention. At a meeting of the Bank of Otago it was stated that profits have fallen to £ll,OOO a year. It is expected that £9 per share will be returned to the shareholders on winding up, which latter was resolved upon. Thirty-two thousand bales of New Zealand wool arrived in London between the 21st Feb. ■ and the 20th March. New Zealand hemp, ordinary to Middling, £2O Jss to £27 ss; fair to good, £27 to £3O. Tow, £ll to £l4. Arrived: Bebington, Coronilla, and Celestial Queen, Dacotah at San Francisco, E. P. Bouverie, Electra (Otago ship), Peter Denny, Queen, Robert Henderson, and St. Leonards. Sailed : Dallam Tower, and James Nicol Flemming, for Otago; Countess of Kintore, for Auckland ; Haleione, and Sheihallion, for Wellington; Mary Shepherd, for Canterbury.
