Tawhiao has directed an inquiry to be made regarding the attack on Mr. Mackay. It is said Mr. Mackay had a loaded revolver. Rewi, with the Ngatimaniopoto, propose removing in the e vent of war. Mr. R. W. Woon obtained the return of 250 stand of Government arms from the Upper Wanganui natives. Te Moananui said road-making caused trouble. This is my word :, “ Forgive us our sins as we forgive those that sin against us.” Lead us not into the Laud Courts. He then referred to the Komatu land at Ohinemuri, for which five signatures were given in Crown Grant by Creagh and three were wanted: these were not to be given. The meeting at Tamahere is over. The Ngatihaua agree to stop in their kain gas should the pakehas attack the Hauhaus. Should the Hauhaus attack them they will fight, but will not aid the pakeha across the confiscated line. Hauhauru, a chief of the Ngatimaniopoto, attended the meeting, but did not speak. The meeting is considered as unsatisfactory. Two hundred and fifty immigrants are to be stationed at Tauranga within six months. £l,OOO will be offered for the two principal murderers of Sulliyan, and £5OO each for the two accessories. The reward is only open to natives. The Luna arrived at Wellington with the Governor on 15th June. The Volunteers lined
the wharf, and the Fire Brigades were presen with torches. A triumphal arch was ale erected, and a procession formed to Government House, the grounds of which were thrown open to the public. His Excellency will be sworn in to-morrow, at 8.30. There was a large concourse of people to witness the landing. The Forfarshire sailed on the 13th from Lyttelton with a cargo valued at £40,000, and the Brechin Castle with a cargo valued at £60,000. Both vessels are bound for London and are racing home. Mr. Pilliett, R.M., Akaroa,has been summoned by Mr. Farr, surveyor, on two charges of assault, and for being drunk and disorderly. The case was heard in Lyttelton, on the 7th, and there were ten Magistrates on the bench. It occupied all <lay. Mr. Joynt was counsel for the plaintiff and Dr. Forester for defendant.
