ROAD BOARD.
S vrritDAY, 21st June, 1873. The Board met as usual. Present Messrs. Poynter (Chairman), Johnson, Parsons, and King. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. Letters received: —From Provineial Sccretary covering Bank Forms and instructions for making up the account for the financial year. From Provincial Secretary informing the Board of the sum of £6BO 13s 4d being placed to their credit at the Bank of New,Zealand, Am'kland, on May 31st ultimo. • From Provincial Secretary respecting the h :rbor improvements and enclosing Bill of Lading for chain, shackles, two anchors, and one beov. The Engineer was instructed to lay down the >nchor and buoy, and, if possible to g--t the assistance of Captain Kennedy, and to prepare specifications for such beacons and piles as are requisite for the mouth of the river. From Mr. Walsh withdrawing from the contracts for the outlet drain and culvert on the Ormond-road, his deposit of £5 being forfeited. In place of this, Kilkoliy’s tender for £BO for outlet drain was accepted. Also Smith and Wilson’s tender for £24 fir culvert was accepted. From Captain Read calling attention to the state of the Wharf-road. The Engineer was instructed to form an estimate of cost for repairing said road, also of reclaiming the land up to the end of the wharf.
From Mr. Hamon giving permission to the Board to alter line of road over Kaitaratahi Hill so that the road may be formed along the base of the hill. 'I he Engineer was instructed to cirry out the proposed alteration.
The following Accounts were passed:- —Mr. W. C. Wilson, for advertizing, 14s.
M. B 'hmd, balance of Mahunga Bridge contract, £3 15s. M. Boland, cu’vert on Ormond-road, £l5.
The Engineer was requested to report on the rocks north of the Gisborne river.
The Engineer reported that he had made arrangements with Mr. James Brown, so that the Mill-road contract should be cancelled for the sum of £55, for work already done on it. Mr. Brown was paid £55 accordingly in terms of the Engineer's agreement.
The Engineer was instructed to have the Waikanae ford repaired by day labour. The Board granted £6 9s 5d assistance to Mr. Winter for forming part of Bright-street, being half of total cost. The question of payment of Ferry subsidy to Mr. Goldsmith for the Waipaoa River Ferry was laid over till next meeting. Resolved to call for tenders from persons willing to fulfil the duties of Poundkeeper for the year ensuing from the Ist July next. The Poundkeeper to receive all the dues from the pound, incitiding proceeds of stock sold.
