MEETING OF SHEEP FARMERS.
According to notice, a meeting of Sheep Farmers and, other? ipterested; was bpld inthp Commercial room ofthe Argyll Hotel on Saturday last . There -was a pretty good attendance, although the importance of the business under consideration, did not sieem td excite mbeh enthusiasm. Mr. S. Johnson opened the proceedings, by stating that Mr. Lusk when last in Poverty Bay; had teuggertdd thrit<k/meeting should be . called for the purpose of ascertaining the opinion of the public in reference to the appoint* m Tir* a ®beep Inspector for this district. Mr. M‘Donald called the attention of the meeting to the fact that, as stated by Mr. Johnson, £lOO per annum has already been promised by the Provincial Government towards the salary of a Sheep Inspector. , Mn. Rpeves remarked that it, wap most desirable that an Iriipectof should be appointed, whois residing near to the ppj-t; and that he should hitve an office in- Gisborne. Mr... proposed and Mr. Reeves seconded the' proposition “That the Chairman of this meeting do recommend the Superintendent of Auckland to appoint an Inspector of . shgep. wliO;shall also be. Registrar of .brands for the district of Poverty 'Bay, at a salary, in the meantime, of £lOO per annum, with a recommendation -that such salary be increased to £250 per annum, such Inspector to have an office mi Gisborne open'daily from 10 o’clock a.m., to 4 o’clock p.m. The Inspector himself to be in attendance unless absent upon' official business. And. that all or any notices left at the Inspector’s office shall be sufficient. And further that a committee be appointed to- urge upon the Provincial Government the providing of a sufficient salary for an Inspector in this district.” Carried unanimously. Mr. McDonald preposed av»4 Mri Robson seconded the proposition “That Mr* J. Meldrum be recommended for appointment as Sheep Inspector and Registrar of brands for the Caijipedj unanimously. Scott for the manner in which he has carried out the duties of Sheep Inspector during, life ittrinifdf Carried unanimously. consisting of Messrs.
